The Bidulock – Brandy and Tonic

The ‘Bidulock’ Brandy and Tonic

Wouldn’t you know it, no recipe for a simple mix of brandy and tonic. However, as the history segment below indicates, this drink came about under usual desperate situations. Enjoy.

Ingredients:
2 oz cheap Mexican brandy
tonic water
ice

Method: Fill Collins glass with ice and 2 oz of Mexican brandy (any brandy will do). Fill with tonic water to taste, stir.

Serve : Cocktail Glass

History:
The story goes something like this. Seven dudes were playing poker one night when one of guys pulls out some free Mexican brandy. Brandy can have a sweat candy like thickness to it if done in the tub at home. However, this stuff was more akin to bad whiskey than sweat candy…. Suffice it to say it was free booze and something had to be done to make the drink go down smoother.

Another guy shows up with a case of tonic water and his ‘classy’ Bombay Gin. Gin and tonic, makes sense doesn’t it? Well ‘cheap Mexican brandy’ dude has a brilliant idea to ad tonic to his gut churning liquid and wouldn’t you know it, it wasn’t half bad. In fact, tonic happened to make a crappy free Mexican brandy into a half crappy ‘cocktail’ that desperate drinkers and overrated poker players are willing to partake.

So there you have it, the origination of the Bidulock (who stole it from his faithful wingman that night). It’s not a cocktail cause it’s not classy, it’s not a shot, it’s not an ale, not quiet a hiball….. we’ll just have to keep this one as ‘other’.
